Theroti thiro therakārakehi dhammehi samannāgato. ‘‘Rattaññū’’tiādīni vuttatthāneva. Etehi ce pīti etehi heṭṭhā vuttehi.
“Elder” (thero) means firm, endowed with the qualities that make one an elder. The words “of long standing” (rattaññū) and so forth have already been explained. “Even by these” (etehi ce pi) means by those mentioned below.
