Brahmacārinoti brahmacariyavāsaṃ vasamānā ariyasāvakā. Kāmabhoginoti gihisotāpannā. ‘‘Iddhañcevā’’tiādīni mahāparinibbāne vitthāritāneva. Lābhaggayasaggapattanti lābhaggañceva yasaggañca pattaṃ.
“Celibates” (brahmacārino) means noble disciples living the holy life. “Enjoyers of sensual pleasures” (kāmabhogino) means lay stream-enterers. The words “successful” (iddhañceva) and so forth have indeed been explained in the Mahāparinibbāna [Sutta commentary]. “Having reached the highest gains and highest renown” (lābhaggayasaggapattaṃ) means having attained the peak of gains and the peak of renown.
