a lotus stem made of the seven precious substances—its stem made of silver, its petals of gold, its base of precious crystal, and completely adorned with pearl netting—burst forth from the ground. Then the Bhagavān Śākyamuni rose from his seat and sat cross-legged upon that lotus. As soon as he sat upon it, he manifested a completely pure body. From that body, he revealed host upon host of bodies of the five destinies. On each host of bodies, he revealed hundreds of thousands of various forms. On each of those forms, he revealed hundreds of thousands of bodily hosts. On each of those bodily hosts, he revealed bodily hosts as numerous as the sands of four Ganges rivers. On each of those bodily hosts as numerous as the sands of four Ganges rivers, he revealed bodily hosts as numerous as the fine atoms of the four continents. On each of those bodily hosts as numerous as the fine atoms, he revealed bodily hosts as numerous as the fine atoms of the great trichiliocosm. On each of those bodily hosts as numerous as the fine atoms, he revealed in each of the ten directions bodily hosts as numerous as the fine atoms of hundreds of thousands of kotis of nayutas of Buddha-fields, thus manifesting bodily hosts of sentient beings as vast as the realm of space, equal to the expanse of phenomena, and inconceivable in number. Although the Dharma cannot be expressed in words, the Tathāgata, by the power of skill in means, will explain through signs and names the Dharma which is signless and nameless. It is like this: when the Tathāgata was first born and circled in saṃsāra, those hosts of different bodies as numerous as inconceivable fine atoms...
