…mounted upon wild oxen, returned to their own land. And through the power of that prince's merit, having also regained their own country, Prince Siddhārtha was consecrated as king and established on the throne. The Bhagavān addressed Ānanda: "Ānanda, if you think that he who was the royal father at that time and in that season was someone else, you should not see it thus. Why is that? The royal father at that time and in that season was none other than my father, the present Śuddhodana. If you think that she who was the mother at that time and in that season was someone else, you should not see it thus: she was none other than my mother, the present Sundarīdevī. If you think that he who was Prince Siddhārtha at that time and in that season was someone else, you should not see it thus. At that time and in that season, that prince was none other than myself, the present Śākyamuni. He who was Śakra, Lord of the Devas, at that time and in that season was none other than the present Ājñātakauṇḍinya." When the Bhagavān taught this chapter on filial piety toward parents, within that assembly twenty times ten thousand bodhisattvas attained the eloquence of expression skilled in the aim of benefiting and bringing happiness to all living beings. Twelve times ten thousand bodhisattvas attained the acceptance of the non-arising of phenomena. Furthermore, as many śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas as there are subtle dust particles, having gathered from the ten directions, relinquished the mind of the two vehicles and reached culmination in the single vehicle. As many upāsakas and upāsikās as there are subtle dust particles attained from the first fruit up to the fruits of the two vehicles. Hundreds of thousands of devas and humans aroused the mind directed toward unsurpassed, perfect awakening. Other than those, among the great multitudes of devas, nāgas, pretas, asuras, gandharvas, garuḍas, kiṃnaras, mahoragas, humans, non-humans, and so forth, some aroused the mind directed toward unsurpassed awakening, while others [aroused the aspiration] extending up to śrāvakas
