Gentleness is a blessing, and deliberation is felicity; / so act with deliberation in an affair, and you will meet with rightness.
It may be that right here some subtle grace will manifest from the veil of the unseen, and that Shīrīn of the age will fall into the hand of the will
of the Khusraw of celestial might; and if not, the supreme judgment is higher: whatever command you issue, I shall execute like a slave,
and whatever order you give, in that very manner we deem subjection and compliance to it our incumbent and binding duty.”
The king listened to these words from the minister with the ear of acceptance, and said, “I have heard that that rose is not without thorns,
and that treasure is not without a serpent, and that wine is not without a hangover; and the son of a great king, out of love for her, has abandoned hearth and home,
and for her sake has chosen the blame of travels and the hardship of exile; and not for a single moment does he let her skirt slip from his hand,
and not for an instant does he lift his head from her feet; and she too is captive to the chain of love and bound in the snare of passion
for the prince, and this verse has come as an exact depiction of their state. Verse:
