nanu pramāṇāntarāsaṃbhave 'pi kṛta eva yatnaḥ ---
‘satsaṃprayoge'; iti /
satyam /
codanaiva pramāṇam, nānyat ---
ityavadhāraṇasiddhaye /
na tu pramāṇameva iti /

Objection: But an effort was indeed made regarding the impossibility of another means of valid cognition [with the aphorism]:
'When there is contact with the existent…'
True,
[this was] for the sake of establishing the restriction: 'An injunctive statement alone is a means of valid cognition, nothing else',
not, however, that 'it is a means of valid cognition only [if no other means of cognition is possible].'
