"Venerable Sir, other heretics declare thus, speak thus, elucidate thus, explain thus: 'Indeed, a single jīva in a single instant performs two activities, namely, the movement-related and the worldly.
At the instant he performs the movement-related, at that instant he performs the worldly.
At the instant he performs the worldly, at that instant he performs the movement-related.
By performing the movement-related, he performs the worldly.
By performing the worldly, he performs the movement-related.
Indeed, a single jīva in a single instant performs two activities, namely, the movement-related and the worldly.'
Now how is this, Venerable Sir? Is it so?"
"Gautama, when those other heretics declare thus, speak thus, elucidate thus, explain thus: 'Indeed, a single jīva in a single instant performs two activities, up to: the movement-related and the worldly'—
those who have spoken thus, have spoken falsely. But I, Gautama, declare thus, speak thus, elucidate thus, explain thus: 'Indeed, a single jīva in a single instant performs one activity, namely, either the movement-related or the worldly.
At the instant he performs the movement-related, not at that instant does he perform the worldly.
At the instant he performs the worldly, not at that instant does he perform the movement-related.
By performing the movement-related, he does not perform the worldly.
By performing the worldly, he does not perform the movement-related.
Indeed, a single jīva in a single instant performs one activity, namely, either the movement-related or the worldly.'"
