"Venerable Sir, is a deity of great power, up to of great majesty, standing at the edge of the world, capable of bending or extending his hand, or foot, or arm, or thigh into the non-world (aloka)?"
"This meaning is not competent."
"For what reason, Venerable Sir, is it said: 'A deity of great power, up to of great majesty, standing at the edge of the world, is not capable of bending or extending his hand, or foot, or arm, or thigh into the non-world'?"
"Gautama! For jīvas, there are pudgalas accumulated by nourishment, pudgalas accumulated in the body, pudgalas accumulated in the physical frame. The mode of motion of jīvas and ajīvas is declared only in dependence upon pudgalas. In the non-world there are neither jīvas nor pudgalas. For that reason, Gautama, it is said: 'A deity of great power, up to of great majesty, standing at the edge of the world, is not capable of bending or extending his hand, or foot, or arm, or thigh into the non-world.'"
"Truly so, Venerable Sir! Truly so, Venerable Sir!"
