"Venerable Sir, an inhabitant of hell, immediately after passing away, who is capable of being reborn among five-sensed animals—which lifespan, Venerable Sir, does he experience?"
"Gautama, he experiences the lifespan of an inhabitant of hell, and the lifespan of a five-sensed animal stands placed before him. Likewise also among humans, with the only difference that the human lifespan stands placed before him."
"Venerable Sir, an Asurakumāra, immediately after passing away, who is capable of being reborn among earth-bodied souls—which lifespan, Venerable Sir, does he experience?"
"Gautama, he experiences the lifespan of an Asurakumāra, and the lifespan of an earth-bodied soul stands placed before him. In this way, wherever one is capable of being reborn, that [lifespan] stands placed before him, and where he resides, he experiences that [lifespan], down to a Vaimānika; with the only difference that an earth-bodied soul reborn among earth-bodied souls experiences the lifespan of an earth-bodied soul, and another lifespan of an earth-bodied soul stands placed before him. Likewise down to a human being, it is to be applied to rebirth in his own state, and similarly in another state."
