“Venerable Sir, are series countable, uncountable, or infinite in terms of substance?”
“Gautama, they are not countable, not uncountable, [but] infinite.”
“Venerable Sir, are series extending east-to-west countable in terms of substance?” “Just the same. So also those extending south-to-north. So also those extending upward-and-downward.”
“Venerable Sir, are the series of the space of the cosmos countable, uncountable, or infinite in terms of substance?”
“Gautama, they are not countable, [they are] uncountable, not infinite.”

“Venerable Sir, are the series of the space of the non-cosmos countable, uncountable, or infinite in terms of substance?”
“Gautama, they are not countable, not uncountable, [but] infinite. So also those extending east-to-west. So also those extending south-to-north. So also those extending upward-and-downward.”
“Venerable Sir, are series countable in terms of space-points?” “As in terms of substance, so also in terms of space-points up to those extending upward-and-downward: all are infinite.”
“Venerable Sir, are the series of the space of the cosmos countable in terms of space-points?”—Question.
“Gautama, sometimes countable, sometimes uncountable, not infinite. So also those extending east-to-west. Those extending south-to-north are just the same. Those extending upward-and-downward are not countable, [they are] uncountable, not infinite.”
“Venerable Sir, the series of the space of the non-cosmos in terms of space-points?”—Question.
