pulāe ṇaṃ bhaṃte! kiṃ ṭhiyakappe hojjā? aṭṭhiyakappe hojjā?
goyamā! ṭhiyakappe vā hojjā, aṭṭhiyakappe vā hojjā| evaṃ jāva siṇāe|
pulāe ṇaṃ bhaṃte! kiṃ jinakappe hojjā? therakappe hojjā? kappātīte hojjā?
goyamā! no jinakappe hojjā, therakappe hojjā, no kappātīte hojjā|
bause ṇaṃ–pucchā|
goyamā! jinakappe vā hojjā, therakappe vā hojjā, no kappātīte hojjā| evaṃ paḍisevaṇākusīle vi|
kasāyakusīle ṇaṃ–pucchā|
goyamā! jinakappe vā hojjā, therakappe vā hojjā, kappātīte vā hojjā|
niyaṃṭhe ṇaṃ–pucchā|
goyamā! no jinakappe hojjā, no therakappe hojjā, kappātīte hojjā| evaṃ siṇāe vi|

"Venerable Sir! Would a pulāka be of fixed conduct, or not of fixed conduct?"
"Gautama! He may be of fixed conduct, or he may not be of fixed conduct. Likewise up to the snātaka."
"Venerable Sir! Would a pulāka be in the practice of the Jinas, or in the practice of the elders, or beyond conduct?"
"Gautama! He would not be in the practice of the Jinas; he would be in the practice of the elders; he would not be beyond conduct."

"Gautama! He may be in the practice of the Jinas, or he may be in the practice of the elders; he would not be beyond conduct. Likewise also the paḍisevaṇākusīla."
