“Venerable Sir! When one restrained with sāmāyika abandons the state of being restrained with sāmāyika, what does he abandon? What does he enter into?”
“Gautama! He abandons the state of being restrained with sāmāyika. He enters into [the state of being] restrained with chedopasthāpanīya, or restrained with sūkṣmasamparāya, or non-restraint, or restraint-and-non-restraint.
[As for] one [restrained with] chedopasthāpanīya—the question [is the same].

[As for] one [restrained with] parihāraviśuddhi—the question [is the same].
Gautama! He abandons the state of being restrained with parihāraviśuddhi. He enters into [the state of being] restrained with chedopasthāpanīya, or non-restraint.
[As for] one [restrained with] sūkṣmasamparāya—the question [is the same].
Gautama! He abandons the state of being restrained with sūkṣmasamparāya. He enters into [the state of being] restrained with sāmāyika, or restrained with chedopasthāpanīya, or restrained with yathākhyāta, or non-restraint.
[As for] one restrained with yathākhyāta—the question [is the same].
Gautama! He abandons the state of being restrained with yathākhyāta. He enters into [the state of being] restrained with sūkṣmasamparāya, or non-restraint, or the destiny of liberation.”
