"Venerable Sir! How many kinds of one-sensed beings are taught?"
"Gautama! Five kinds of one-sensed beings are taught, namely: earth-bodied beings up to plant-bodied beings. These should be spoken of through a quadruple division up to plant-bodied beings.

[If] an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn at the western outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth as an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being—with a transition of how many samayas, Venerable Sir, would it be reborn?"
"Gautama! It would be reborn with a transition of one samaya, or of two samayas, or of three samayas."
"For what reason, Venerable Sir, is it said: 'with [a transition of] one samaya, or of two samayas, up to would be reborn'?"
"Indeed, Gautama, seven lines have been taught by me, namely: a straight line, bent at one point, bent at two points, curved at one point, curved at two points, circular, and semicircular. Being reborn along a straight line, it would be reborn with a transition of one samaya. Being reborn along a line bent at one point, it would be reborn with a transition of two samayas. Being reborn along a line bent at two points, it would be reborn with a transition of three samayas. For that reason, Gautama, up to would be reborn.

[If] an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn at the western outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth as a completed subtle earth-bodied being—with a transition of how many samayas, Venerable Sir, would it be reborn?"
"Gautama! With [a transition of] one samaya, etc., the rest is the very same, up to: for that reason, Gautama, it is said: 'it would be reborn with a transition of one samaya, or of two samayas, or of three samayas.'

In this way, having an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being undergo samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end, it should be made to be reborn at the western outermost end among gross earth-bodied beings that are uncompleted, and then among those very ones that are completed. Likewise, four expositions [are to be given] regarding water-bodied beings: reborn among subtle uncompleted, then completed; gross uncompleted, then completed. Exactly so, it should also be made to be reborn among subtle fire-bodied beings: uncompleted, then completed.

[If] an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn in the human realm as an uncompleted gross fire-bodied being—with a transition of how many samayas, Venerable Sir, would it be reborn? The rest is the very same. In this way, its rebirth should be stated as a completed gross fire-bodied being. Among wind-bodied beings, both subtle and gross, rebirth should be stated just as it was stated for water-bodied beings.
In this way among plant-bodied beings also.

'A completed subtle earth-bodied being, Venerable Sir, of this Ratnaprabhā earth...?' In this way, also having a completed subtle earth-bodied being undergo samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end, it should be made to be reborn in these very twenty states in this very sequence, up to among completed gross plant-bodied beings. In this way also an uncompleted gross earth-bodied being. In this way also a completed gross earth-bodied being.

In this way, having a water-bodied being also undergo samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end in all four alternatives, it should be made to be reborn in these very twenty states according to this very discourse. A subtle fire-bodied being also, both uncompleted and completed, should be made to be reborn in these very twenty states.

[If] an uncompleted gross fire-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta in the human realm, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn at the western outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth as an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being—with a transition of how many samayas, Venerable Sir, would it be reborn? The rest is just the same, up to: for that reason.

In this way it should be made to be reborn among earth-bodied beings of all four kinds; in this way among water-bodied beings of all four kinds; among fire-bodied beings, both subtle uncompleted and completed, it should be made to be reborn in exactly this way.

[If] an uncompleted gross fire-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta in the human realm, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn in the human realm as an uncompleted gross fire-bodied being—with [a transition of] how many samayas, Venerable Sir? The rest is the very same. In this way it should also be made to be reborn as a completed gross fire-bodied being. And as a wind-bodied being and as a plant-bodied being, it should be made to be reborn by the quadruple division just as among earth-bodied beings. In this way, also having a completed gross fire-bodied being undergo samavaghāta in the realm of time, it should be made to be reborn in these very twenty states.

Just as an uncompleted one was made to be reborn, in this way everywhere gross fire-bodied beings, both uncompleted and completed, should be made to be reborn and made to undergo samavaghāta in the realm of time. Wind-bodied beings and plant-bodied beings should be made to be reborn by the quadruple division just as earth-bodied beings, up to:

[If] a completed gross plant-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn at the western outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth as a completed gross plant-bodied being—with [a transition of] how many samayas, Venerable Sir? The rest is just the same, up to: for that reason.

[If] an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta at the western outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn at the eastern outermost end of this Ratnaprabhā earth as an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being—with a transition of how many samayas, Venerable Sir? The rest is just the same without remainder. In this way, just as those undergoing samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end in all states were made to be reborn at the western outermost end and in the realm of time, and those undergoing samavaghāta in the realm of time were made to be reborn at the western outermost end and in the realm of time, in this very sequence those undergoing samavaghāta at the western outermost end and in the realm of time should be made to be reborn at the eastern outermost end and in the realm of time by that very alternative. In this way, by this alternative, there is rebirth at the northern outermost end and in the realm of time for those undergoing samavaghāta at the southern outermost end. Exactly so, those undergoing samavaghāta at the northern outermost end and in the realm of time should be made to be reborn at the southern outermost end and in the realm of time by that very alternative.

[If] an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end of the Śarkarāprabhā earth, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn at the western outermost end of the Śarkarāprabhā earth as an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being...? In this way, just as in Ratnaprabhā, up to: for that reason. In this way, by this sequence, up to among completed subtle fire-bodied beings.

[If] an uncompleted subtle earth-bodied being, Venerable Sir, having undergone samavaghāta at the eastern outermost end of the Śarkarāprabhā earth, and having undergone samavaghāta, is destined to be reborn in the realm of time as an uncompleted gross fire-bodied being—with [a transition of] how many samayas, Venerable Sir?—the question.
"Gautama! It would be reborn with a transition of two samayas or of three samayas."
"For what reason?"
"Indeed, Gautama, seven lines have been taught by me, namely: a straight line up to a semicircular [line]. Being reborn along a line bent at one point, it would be reborn with a transition of two samayas. Being reborn along a line bent at two points, it would be reborn with a transition of three samayas. For that reason. In this way also among completed gross fire-bodied beings. The rest is as in Ratnaprabhā.

Those gross fire-bodied beings too, both uncompleted and completed, who having undergone samavaghāta in the realm of time are reborn at the western outermost end of the second earth among the four kinds of earth-bodied beings, four kinds of water-bodied beings, two kinds of fire-bodied beings, four kinds of wind-bodied beings, [and] four kinds of plant-bodied beings, should also be made to be reborn in this very way with a transition of two samayas or of three samayas. When gross fire-bodied beings, both uncompleted and completed, are reborn among those very ones, then transitions of one samaya, two samayas, and three samayas should be stated just as in Ratnaprabhā; the rest is just as in Ratnaprabhā, without remainder. As the discourse was stated for Śarkarāprabhā, so it should be stated down to the seventh below."
