“Venerable Sir! Are jīvas of great suffering [and] great dissipation? Of great suffering [and] small dissipation? Of small suffering [and] great dissipation? Of small suffering [and] small dissipation?”
“Gautama! Certain jīvas are of great suffering [and] great dissipation; certain jīvas are of great suffering [and] small dissipation; certain jīvas are of small suffering [and] great dissipation; certain jīvas are of small suffering [and] small dissipation.”
“For what reason?”
“Gautama! A homeless ascetic who has undertaken the practices (pratimās) is of great suffering [and] great dissipation. Inhabitants of hell in the sixth and seventh earths are of great suffering [and] small dissipation. A homeless ascetic who has reached the state of mountain-like immobility (śaileśī) is of small suffering [and] great dissipation. Gods who are reborn in the Anuttara [heavens] are of small suffering [and] small dissipation.”
“It is so, Venerable Sir! It is so, Venerable Sir!”
