When a period of two koṭākoṭīs of sāgaropamas had passed in that age, with infinite modes of colour, infinite modes of smell, infinite modes of taste, infinite modes of touch, infinite modes of osseous structure, infinite modes of configuration, infinite modes of height, infinite modes of lifespan, infinite modes of heaviness-lightness, infinite modes of neither-heaviness-nor-lightness, and infinite modes of initiative, action, strength, vigour, virility, and prowess decreasing through an infinitely fold decline, at that point, O long-lived śramaṇas, the age named Duḥṣamasuṣamā arrived.
“Venerable sir! In that age, what kind of appearance and conditions was the Bharata realm declared to have?”
“O Gautama! The ground surface was declared to be exceedingly level and delightful, like the face of an āliṅga drum, up to being adorned with diverse five-coloured gems and grasses, namely: artificial as well as natural.”
“Venerable sir! In that age, what kind of appearance and conditions were human beings in the Bharata realm declared to have?”
“O Gautama! Those humans had six kinds of osseous structure, six kinds of configuration, many dhanuses in upright height; at minimum an antarmuhūrta and at maximum a pūrvakoṭi of lifespan they lived. Having lived it, some went to hell, some went to the animal realm, some went to the human realm, some went to the divine realm, and some were perfected, awakened, liberated, completely cooled, and made an end of all suffering.
In that age, in the Bharata realm, three lineages arose, namely: the lineage of arhats, the lineage of cakravartins, and the lineage of daśārhas.
In that age, in the Bharata realm, twenty-three tīrthaṅkaras, eleven cakravartins, nine baladevas, and nine vāsudevas arose.”
