When a period of one koṭākoṭī of sāgaropamas less forty-two thousand years had passed in that age [in the Bharata realm], with infinite modes of colour, infinite modes of smell, infinite modes of taste, infinite modes of touch, infinite modes of osseous structure, infinite modes of configuration, infinite modes of height, infinite modes of lifespan, infinite modes of heaviness-lightness, infinite modes of neither-heaviness-nor-lightness, and infinite modes of initiative, action, strength, vigour, virility, and prowess decreasing through an infinitely fold decline, at that point, O long-lived śramaṇas, the age named Duḥṣamā will arrive.
“Venerable sir! In that age, what kind of appearance and conditions will the Bharata realm have?”
“O Gautama! The ground surface will be exceedingly level and delightful, like the face of an āliṅga drum or the face of a mṛdaṅga drum, up to being adorned with diverse five-coloured gems and grasses, namely: artificial as well as natural.”
“Venerable sir! In that age, what kind of appearance and conditions are the human beings of the Bharata realm declared to have?”
“O Gautama! Those humans have six kinds of osseous structure, six kinds of configuration, many ratnis in upright height; at minimum an antarmuhūrta and at maximum a lifespan of a little over one hundred years they live. Having lived it, some will go to hell, some will go to the animal realm, some will go to the human realm, some will go to the divine realm, and some are perfected, awakened, liberated, completely cooled, and make an end of all suffering.
In the last third part of that age, communal conduct, sectarian conduct, royal conduct, innate brilliance, and the practice of dharma will be cut off.”
