"In that age, venerable sir, what will the appearance and state of Bharata realm be like?"
"Gautama! Its tract of land will be mostly level and delightful, just like the surface of an āliṅga drum, up to adorned with jewels and grasses of various fivefold colours, namely, artificial and non-artificial.
In that age, venerable sir, what will the appearance and state of the human beings be like?"
"Gautama! Those human beings will possess the six osseous structures, the six configurations, a height of many aratnis upwards; they will live out a lifespan of a minimum of an antarmuhūrta and a maximum of a little over one hundred years. Having lived it out, some will go to hell, some will go to the animal realm, some will go to the human realm, some will go to the divine realm; they will not attain perfection.
When a period of twenty-one thousand years has elapsed in that age, with an infinite increase in an infinite number of modes of colour, modes of smell, modes of taste, modes of touch, modes of osseous structure, modes of configuration, modes of height, modes of lifespan, modes of heaviness and lightness, modes of neither-heaviness-nor-lightness, and modes of exertion, action, strength, energy, manly vigour and prowess, continuously increasing and increasing, at that time, O long-lived śramaṇa, the age named Dusamasūsamā will be reached!
In that age, venerable sir, what will the appearance and state of Bharata realm be like?"
"Gautama! Its tract of land will be mostly level and delightful, just like the surface of an āliṅga drum, up to adorned with jewels and grasses of various fivefold colours, namely, artificial and non-artificial.
In that age, venerable sir, what will the appearance and state of the human beings be like?"
"Gautama! Those human beings will possess the six osseous structures, the six configurations, a height of many dhanuses upwards; they will live out a lifespan of a minimum of an antarmuhūrta and a maximum of a pūrvakoṭi. Having lived it out, some will go to hell, some will go to the animal realm, some will go to the human realm, some will go to the divine realm; some will attain perfection, awaken, be liberated, achieve nirvāṇa, and make an end of all suffering.
In that age, three lineages will arise, namely: the lineage of the tīrthaṅkaras, the lineage of the cakravartins, and the lineage of the daśārhas.
In that age, twenty-three tīrthaṅkaras, eleven cakravartins, nine baladevas, and nine vāsudevas will arise.
When a period of one koṭyākoṭi of sāgaropamas diminished by forty-two thousand years has elapsed in that age, with an infinite increase in an infinite number of modes of colour, modes of smell, modes of taste, modes of touch, modes of osseous structure, modes of configuration, modes of height, modes of lifespan, modes of heaviness and lightness, modes of neither-heaviness-nor-lightness, and modes of exertion, action, strength, energy, manly vigour and prowess, continuously increasing and increasing, at that time, O long-lived śramaṇa, the age named Susamadūsamā will be reached!
That age will be divided into three parts, namely: the first third, the middle third, and the final third.
In the first third of that age, venerable sir, what will the appearance and state of Bharata realm be like?"
"Gautama! Its tract of land will be mostly level and delightful, just like the surface of an āliṅga drum, up to adorned with jewels and grasses of various fivefold colours, namely, artificial and non-artificial.
In the first third of that age, venerable sir, what will the appearance and state of the human beings in Bharata realm be like?"
"Gautama! Those human beings will possess the six osseous structures, the six configurations, a height of many hundreds of dhanuses upwards; they will live out a lifespan of a minimum of a numerable number of years and a maximum of an innumerable number of years. Having lived it out, some will go to hell, some will go to the animal realm, some will go to the human realm, some will go to the divine realm; some will attain perfection, awaken, be liberated, achieve nirvāṇa, and make an end of all suffering.
In the first third of that age, royal governance will arise, and the practice of religion will come to an end.
In the middle and final thirds of that age, what will the appearance and state of Bharata realm be like?"
"Gautama! Its tract of land will be mostly level and delightful; the same account is to be applied, with this difference: their height will be two thousand dhanuses upwards; those human beings will have sixty-four pairs of ribs; a desire for food will arise at the fourth meal-time; their lifespan will be one palyopama; they will protect and care for [their children] for seventy-nine nights and days; up to those human beings are declared to be destined for the divine realm, O long-lived śramaṇa!
When a period of two koṭyākoṭis of sāgaropamas has elapsed in that age, with an infinite increase in an infinite number of modes of colour, modes of smell, modes of taste, modes of touch, modes of osseous structure, modes of configuration, modes of height, modes of lifespan, modes of heaviness and lightness, modes of neither-heaviness-nor-lightness, and modes of exertion, action, strength, energy, manly vigour and prowess, continuously increasing and increasing, at that time, O long-lived śramaṇa, the age named Susamā will be reached!
In Jambūdvīpa island, venerable sir, in the upcoming utsarpiṇī, in the age of Susamā when it has reached its supreme culmination, what will the appearance and state of Bharata realm be like?"
"Gautama! Its tract of land will be mostly level and delightful, just like the surface of an āliṅga drum; it is the same as that described previously for Susamasusamā, with this difference: they will be four thousand dhanuses in height; they will have one hundred and twenty-eight pairs of ribs; a desire for food will arise at the sixth meal-time; they will protect [their children] for sixty-four nights and days; their lifespan will be two palyopamas; the rest is just the same.
In that age, four kinds of human beings will be produced, namely: Ekā, Paurajaṅghā, Kusumā, and Susamaṇā.
When a period of three koṭyākoṭis of sāgaropamas has elapsed in that age, with an infinite increase in an infinite number of modes of colour, modes of smell, modes of taste, modes of touch, modes of osseous structure, modes of configuration, modes of height, modes of lifespan, modes of heaviness and lightness, modes of neither-heaviness-nor-lightness, and modes of exertion, action, strength, energy, manly vigour and prowess, continuously increasing and increasing, at that time, O long-lived śramaṇa, the age named Susamasusamā will be reached!
In Jambūdvīpa island, venerable sir, in Bharata realm, in this utsarpiṇī, in the age of Susamasusamā when it has reached its supreme culmination, what will the appearance and state of Bharata realm be like?"
"Gautama! Its tract of land will be mostly level and delightful, just like the surface of an āliṅga drum, up to adorned with jewels and grasses of various fivefold colours, namely, from black up to white, and likewise up to six kinds of human beings will be produced, namely: Pamhagandhā, Miyagandhā, Amamā, Tetalī, Sahā, and Sanicārī."
