[22] samprati tu kṛta-yava-kṣāra-sāra-sandha-gandhakendhana-vahnīyamānam etam ātmanā cachāda nanāda ca | kevala-bali-mānitāmayāsahiṣṇutayā dhṛṣṇag asau nāga-jiṣṇur ārto' pi na nivartate sma |

[22] But now, [the serpent] enveloped him with himself, acting like a fire fed with fuel of compounded sulfur and refined potassium nitrate, and hissed loudly. Solely unable to bear the sickness of pride in his own might, that bold conqueror of serpents did not turn back, even when afflicted.
