mūrdha-śreṇyāṃ tasya śūnye ca kṛṣṇe
nṛtyaṃ kurvāṇe tu citraṃ tadāsīt |
tena krodhān mastakaṃ yady udastaṃ
tatrānena prāpitā tāla-lattā || [śālinī]
Indeed, while Kṛṣṇa danced upon the row of its heads / and in the empty air, a wonder occurred: / whenever a head was thrust up in rage by the serpent, / a rhythmic foot-stroke was delivered to it by him.
