rāmaḥ krīḍāviṣṭatāśliṣṭa-bodhas
taṃ nājñāsīd dṛṣṭa-mātraṃ ca kṛṣṇaḥ |
pūrvaḥ prāyeṇārjutā-bhitta-cittaḥ
paścād-bhāvī cāturī-sandhurīṇaḥ || [śālinī]
Rāma, his awareness engaged in being absorbed in play, / did not recognise him, while Kṛṣṇa did as soon as he was seen. / The former’s mind was mostly broken open by simple honesty; / the latter was capable of bearing the burden of cleverness. //
