uḍḍiḍye sapadi yadā tu pakṣiṇī sā
taṃ bālaṃ hṛdi parigṛhya lambamānaṃ |
uḍḍīnā drutataram eva mātṛ-yugma-
prāṇāś ca sphuṭita-hṛdambujād ivāsan || [praharṣiṇī]

When that female bird suddenly flew up,
holding to her chest that clinging boy,
the life-breaths of the two mothers flew up just as swiftly,
as though from their burst heart-lotuses. ||1.5.16
