As the king of sages was thus praising him, the king of Vraja whispered in the ear of his servant, "Do this and that," and initiated a conversation with the sage regarding the news of Vasudeva, which had been turned upside down by the wickedness of Kaṃsa. And as the two of them were conversing, that supreme servant, understanding that purpose, entered the inner chambers and placed before them the two mothers, holding their respective boys in their laps, while carrying in his hands a golden vessel shining with fragrant perfumes, flowers, and the like, and swiftly approached in secret.
Then the sage, seeing from afar those two tiny infants / clinging to their mothers' breasts,
arose in haste; like a jewel or a mantra, the majesty of the Lord / alone commands respect, not length of years. ||
And then,
beholding the two boys, one dark and one fair, / caressed by the charming limbs of the pair of mothers,
the ascetic, with unblinking eyes, / was utterly unable to hold back his tears. ||
