[23] atha pura-dvāraṃ na mātur gamana-dvāram iti matvā palāyana-grahilas tad-diśam eva jagrāha | jananī tu tadānīṃ tatrājanatāṃ jānatī tam evānuyātavatī | tataś ca,
yadādravat pṛṣṭham anīkṣamāṇas
tadā na lebhe pṛthuko jananyā |
yadā bhayād vīkṣitavān sa paścāt
tadā tayāsau jagṛhe kareṇa || [upendravajrā]

[23] Then, thinking that the main gate of the town was not a path where his mother would go, he, eager to escape, headed in that very direction. But the mother, knowing that there were no people there at that time, pursued him there. And then:
When the child ran without looking back,
he could not be caught by his mother;
when he looked behind out of fear,
he was seized by her hand. ||
