When the breeze from the Malaya mountains is soft from caressing tender clove creepers,
and bower-cottages resound with cooing cuckoos mingled with swarms of bees,
I know where Krishna tarries in these early days of Spring,
When every wind from warm Malay brings fragrance on its wing;
Brings fragrance stolen far away from thickets of the clove,
In jungles where the bees hum and the Koil flutes her love;
He dances with the dancers of a merry morrice one,
All in the budding Spring-time, for 'tis sad to be alone.
1.1.28.p1
viharati harir iha sarasa-vasante
nṛtyati yuvatī-janena samaṃ sakhi virahi-janasya durante ||dhr||
Hari sports here in the passionate spring;
he dances together with young women, O confidante, in this season hard to bear for those separated from a lover. [Refrain]
