Maidservant: Neither the mistress nor the merchant's son knows your appearance, right?
Sajjalaka: Certainly not.
Maidservant: Then return this ornament to the mistress in the name of that merchant's son. And if this is done, you will be protected, that noble sir will be free from despair, and I will not be troubled. Otherwise, having deceived the mistress again, there would be slave-status once more.
Sajjalaka: Madanikā! I am pleased.
Courtesan: Well, let me go inside and sit down. (Does so.)
Maidservant: Sajjalaka! Come, wait for me at the temple of Kāmadeva. I will find an opportunity and inform the mistress.
Sajjalaka: Very well. (Exit.)
(Then enters another maidservant.)
