Vāsavadattā: (Observing, to herself) Ah, the carelessness of the attendants! She whom I keep from his line of sight may fall right into his view! Well, let it be for now. (Aloud) Maid Sāgarikā, why have you come here today, leaving the myna bird behind when the attendants are preoccupied with the festival of the God of Love? Therefore, go back right away, and hand over all these worship materials into the hands of Kāñcanamālā.
Sāgarikā: As Your Majesty commands. (Having done so, taking a few steps, to herself) The myna bird has been handed over by me into Susaṃgatā’s hands. Even so, I have a curiosity to see: is the blessed Bodiless One worshipped here just as he is worshipped in my father's inner palace, or otherwise? So, remaining unnoticed, I shall watch. (Walking around and looking) While the time of worship arrives here, in the meantime I too shall gather flowers to worship the blessed God of Love. (She mimes gathering flowers.)
Vāsavadattā: Kāñcanamālā, establish the blessed Pradyumna.
Kāñcanamālā: As Your Majesty commands. (She does so.)
Vidūṣaka: (Walking around and looking) Oh friend, since the sound of anklets has ceased, I think the queen has arrived at the foot of the aśoka tree.
King: Friend, you have judged correctly. Look! She,
whose form is delicate as a flower, bearing a waist yet more slender through fasting,
shines standing by the side of the God with the Makara-Banner, like his bowstave. || 19
