The Compendium of Caraka 6.22.21

6.22.21

tīkṣṇoṣṇarūkṣabhāvānmadyaṃ pittānilau prakopayati/
śoṣayato 'apāṃ dhātuṃ tāveva hi madyaśīlānām//

Because of its sharp, hot, and dry properties, liquor aggravates pitta and wind; / and in habitual drinkers, those two very [doṣas] dry up the water element.
