udayasthā tithir yā hi na bhaved dinamadhyagā | sā khaṇḍā na vratānāṃ syād ārambhaś ca samāpanam

A lunar day (tithi) which is present at sunrise, indeed, but does not extend to the middle of the day, / is broken (khaṇḍā); it should not serve as the beginning or completion of observances.
