keśādi dūṣite tīre na kuryāttilatarpaṇam
jalamadhye jalaṃ deyaṃ pitṝṇāṃ jalamicchatām
ghanasthāne na dātavyaṃ pitṝṇāṃ nopagacchati
One should not make a sesame-water libation on a bank defiled by hair and the like; / water should be offered in the midst of water for the ancestors who desire water; / it must not be given on dry ground; it does not reach the ancestors.
