pitṛvat pitṛbhrātṛṣu pitṛvyajñātimātṛṣu .
pūrvvābhāve paro dadyāt sarvvābhāve svayaṃ vrajet .. 2.6 ..
[The father should give her], like a father among the father's brothers, uncles, kinsmen, and mothers; / in the absence of the former, the latter should give; in the absence of all, she may go on her own.
