pitṛtatpitṛbhrātṛṣu pitṛvyajñātimātṛṣu
pūrvābhāve paro dadyāt sarvābhāve svayaṃ vrajet
Among the father, the paternal grandfather, brothers, paternal uncles, kin, and mother,
in the absence of the preceding, the next should give her; in the absence of all, she may go on her own.
