prāṇo jīvena saṃyukto vṛttimāniti śabdyate /
jīvovyāhṛtisañjñastu prāṇeṣvādhyātmikaḥ smṛtaḥ //
The vital breath, united with the individual soul, is called active;
and the individual soul, designated as the utterance, is regarded as the spiritual principle among the vital breaths.
