anarthopaśamaṃ sākṣādbhaktiyogam adhokṣaje /
lokasyājānato vidvāṃścakre sātvatasaṃhitām //
6. And seeing that devotion to Adhokshaja is the direct means of ending the evil of (Samsara), the wise Vyasa wrote this work, called the Satvata-Samhita (or Sri Bhagavata) for the sake of ignorant men.
