iti skandapurāṇe asurasandeśanaṃ nāma dvyuttaraśatatamodhyāyaḥ

Having slain all those servants, he came to the city of the Aśmakas, / roaring like a cloud pouring down rain at the end of an era.
Having gone to that city, O Vyāsa, the almighty lord, consisting of all worlds, / turning from left to right, arrived at the southern gate.
There, by the many Danavas guarding the southern gate, / an exceedingly loud clamour was raised, by which the city was agitated.
For, having shattered the *śataghnī*s, the door panels, and the heavy clubs, / that imperishable one ground to powder the wheels of destruction and the siege engines.
Then, filled with intense rage, those Danava great car-warriors arrived, / covering the lord of beasts with a fierce shower of weapons.
Then, struck by them with javelins, discuses, and *bhindipāla* slings, / he abandoned the gate, came forth, and took his stand on level ground.
Thinking then, 'He is defeated indeed!', those Asuras, O Vyāsa, / pursued him from behind, hacking at him with their choice weapons.
Being hacked by the downpour of arrows, javelins, massive clubs, and iron-tipped pestles, / having come out then, he, abode of the hosts of the gods, fought the sons of Diti.
Thus ends the one hundred and second chapter, entitled 'The Encounter with the Asuras', in the Skandapurāṇa.
