Has he forgotten his word, saying, "We shall not part, like the stone / joined with adhesive by the small craftsman in Potini / with six-tusked elephants, belonging to Neduvēḷ Āvi, / of goodly battles, resembling Murukaṉ, who routed the Maḻavar warriors / with bright anklets, dense chaplets that bees surround, and handsome horses" / —O tōḻi!—leaving for a far country to bring wealth of golden vessels, / so that my bamboo-like swelling shoulders, rich in excellence, grow thin?
Because the fierce-rayed sun, like fire, scorches so that moisture is destroyed and the ground splits, / the trees have withered as their shade diminished;
because the fresh rocky pools whose water ceased are dry, having become completely scorched on hot rocks, / the heat is so fierce it parches fallen grain;
with no travellers passing, the plunderers grow faint; / the pathways across the arid wilderness are desolated;
and the white, dense flowers of the fiberless drumstick tree from shaking branches, / lifted by the whirling strong wind, rise and swirl / like the spray of breaking waves, / appearing beforehand like an ocean—to that forest has he gone?
