வேங்கையும் ஒள்ளிணர் விரிந்தன;

A male monkey, having unwittingly drunk the clear liquor fermented / in a deep rock pool from the ripe, sweet fruit from large heavy bunches / of plantain trees with luxuriant leaves, and jackfruit pulp / from the slopes that delays those who eat it,
unable to climb the nearby sandalwood tree where black pepper grows, / sleeps happily upon the slope of fragrant flowers— / O lord of the land where diverse beasts easily attain / such unimagined pleasure in your hills!
What desired joy could be difficult for you?
If she too is thus towards you, with swelling bamboo-like shoulders / of abundant beauty, and a heart that will not stay though restrained, / you may come at night, watching for the moment of slackness / of the guards placed by her father on strict watch;
the kino trees in the green thickets have opened their bright clusters; / and the long white moon has assumed its halo!
