நறுமலர்க் காண்வரும் குறும்பல் கூந்தல்

ஓடுபுறம் கண்ட ஞான்றை,
ஆடுகொள் வியன்களத்து ஆர்ப்பினும் பெரிதே!
O lord of the town with rushing waters, where harvesters of red paddy,
who reap and heap sheaves amid lotuses that blaze like fire,
if their carts bearing toddy get stuck in the mud, quickly assemble their fine kinsmen!
You truly have no great shame.
They say: yesterday, at the wide bathing ghat where puṅku trees bloom like parched grain,
you sported in the enduring flood with a woman of sword-sharp exquisite beauty,
with a bright forehead, short dark tresses adorned with fragrant flowers,
a soft glance, and firm, shapely breasts adorned with beads.
Though we concealed it, wrapping it in false excuses, it got out of hand
and has become a public scandal!
It is greater even than the roaring clamor on the vast, victory-winning field
where Ceḻiyaṉ of battle prowess, with flower garlands and dark-caparisoned elephants,
at the battlefield of Kūṭal of unfailing festivals,
struck and shattered the ocean-like vast army of the two great kings who rose up together,
and beheld their retreating backs as they scattered, leaving their booming drums behind!
