தனியை வருதல் அதனினும் அஞ்சுதும்;
கிளிகடி பாடலும் ஒழிந்தனள்;
On the slope of the towering mountain with roaring white waterfalls,
wearing clusters of sweet-smelling kino blossoms,
mingling with the women to the beat of the toṇṭaka drum,
in the small hamlet where people dance in the street,
you resemble Murukaṉ in form, with powerful hounds behind you;
if you come by day, we fear the village gossip.
And if you come alone in the pitch darkness of midnight,
when the murderous tiger prowls, having failed to seize
the great-trunked elephant with cavernous mouth that mingles with its dark cow and calf,
we fear that even more!
What will become of her? She has even abandoned
her bird-chasing songs in the ripening-eared millet field
where many a day you made a tryst.
She is to be pitied; she has no grace other than yours!
