Like the pearl necklace across the chest of Neṭuvēḷ, / touching the red-glowing sky, flocks of green-legged storks / fly rising in an orderly row after feeding on fish, / gently passing the day's limit, and towards the west / the many-rayed sun has reached the mountain— / her proud, beautiful, cool rain-eyes weeping, / lamenting the ruin of her great beauty and sweet, soft grace / adorned with vast modesty, without ceasing / she has begun to burn with grief, O lord! / Therefore, with your mule whose hooves were wounded when struck by an estuary shark, / slackening its pace and resting in the deep waters of the dark backwater, / rather than departing at night with young warriors of strong bows, / what would be harmed if you stayed and departed later?— / in our country of great backwaters with small-clustered neytal, / where the anril cries out / on the white-sand garden where palmyra trees rise high!
