Like sages of unbathed austerity / with bodies worn thin from lack of eating, / the forest elephants march in a line along the narrow path crowded against the rock, / across the beauty-lost hill; you are unable to cross it and bring back wealth; / nor, if you remain, embracing the fine breast / of her with excellent, sparse, five-part hair, / are you free from fearing poverty; having a nature / prone to ruin—may you live, O heart!— / like the ocean tide of the great sea at the large port where the reed-burying Kāvērī empties, / belonging to the Cōḻa kings of great generosity and many shields resembling rain-clouds, / whose oil-smeared long spears shine like moonlight at the leaf-like blade, / which arrives with prawns and returns with wreaths of foam, / you do not stay fixed on one thing regarding going to acquire wealth.
