தன்கடற் பிறந்த முத்தின் ஆரமும்,
முனைதிரை கொடுக்கும் துப்பின், தன்மலைத்
தெறல் அருமரபின் கடவுட் பேணிக்
குறவர் தந்த சந்தின் ஆரமும்,
இருபேர் ஆரமும் எழில்பெற அணியும்
திருவீழ் மார்பின் தென்னவன் மறவன் -
குழியில் கொண்ட மராஅ யானை
மொழியின் உணர்த்தும் சிறுவரை அல்லது,
வரைநிலை இன்றி இரவலர்க்கு ஈயும்,
வள்வாய் அம்பின் கோடைப் பொருநன்-
பண்ணி தைஇய பயம்கெழு வேள்வியின்,
விழுமிது நிகழ்விது ஆயினும்- தெற்குஏர்பு,
கழிமழை பொழிந்த பொழுதுகொள் அமையத்துச்,
சாயல் இன்துணை இவட்பிரிந்து உறையின்,
நோய் இன்றாக செய்பொருள்! வயிற்பட
மாசுஇல் தூமடி விரிந்த சேக்கை,
கவவுஇன் புறாமைக் கழிக- வள வயல்,
அழல்நுதி அன்ன தோகை ஈன்ற
கழனி நெல்லின் கவைமுதல் அலங்கல்
நிரம்புஅகன் செறுவில் வரம்பு அணையாத் துயல்வரப்,
புலம்பொடு வந்த பொழுதுகொள் வாடை,
இலங்குபூங் கரும்பின் ஏர்கழை இருந்த
வெண்குருகு நரல, வீசும்
நுண்பல் துவலைய தண்பனி நாளே!

A garland of pearls born from his own sea, / and a garland of sandalwood offered by the Kuravar / who revere the god of unapproachable tradition on his mountain / of strength that repels hostile armies— / adorned handsomely with both great garlands / on his Lakshmi-favored chest is the warrior of the Southerner, / the lord of the Kōṭai hill with broad-tipped arrows / who gives without limit to supplicants, / except for the brief moment he spends directing by command / the rutting elephants captured in pits— / even if it were greater than the fruit-yielding sacrifice / performed by Paṇṇi, / if he stays separated from her, his sweet, graceful mate, / at this seasonal hour when excessive rains have poured, rising from the south, / may the wealth he makes be free from sorrow! / May these cold, dewy days pass without the joy of embrace / upon this pure, flawless bed, / when the seasonal chill north wind arrives bringing loneliness, / swaying the forked, ripe ears of field paddy / whose tips resemble flames in fertile tracts, / moving from ridge to ridge in the wide, full fields, / while white herons screech upon the shapely stalks / of bright-flowered sugarcane, / spraying fine, abundant drops of spray!
