Listen, may you prosper, my friends! If you had stood / before her and seen her, you would never have reproached me: / on the shore with heaped sands, abounding in muṇṭakam thorn bushes / with thick, red-stemmed buds holding fine pollen, / where the tooth-edged long fronds of the rough-trunked tāḻai tree with a demon-like crown / protect its many white, belly-shaped flowers that open wide, / while damp, lustrous pearls brought by rolling waves / on the flower-fragrant waters that have overcome the stench of fish / are trodden by the prancing steps of horses, effacing their hoof-prints / in the harbor of Koṟkai belonging to Vaḻuti of the goodly chariot— / she whose kohl-painted eyes defeat the opened blooms / of curved-backwater neytal lilies visited by bees, / with the playful, alluring glance from her bright, radiant face!
