"In the shrubby woodland where the rainy season has joined, / where white rat males with chin-tufts, crab's-eye-like eyes, / bright fur, and scrawny feet scatter fine dust on red-gravel knolls, / and fallen kino blossoms pattern the fine ground on an auspicious day; / where white clouds drift like bow-carded cotton / by the short hillocks of the slashed swidden clearing; / where, with charcoal-like fallen flowers of ironwood, / mixed with red silk-cotton blossoms like spreading flame, / we shall drink drops borne on high by the wind / from the sweet-water forest stream bearing floating flowers— / can you come along with us?" / Thus he asked me with useless words indeed, my friend! / He who has crossed the wilderness where, in the moist-ridges of the borderlands, / where spike-like blooming scarlet ixora / and wild-lemon trees spread on rock surfaces in slashed fields, / blackbuck antelopes with twisted horns / and gentle does crop the striped wild-sansevieria.
