பருவம் அன்று, அவர்: 'வருதும்' என்றதுவே.
Darkening as if falling asleep, flashing as if the sky were torn apart,
taking on heavy drops and mounting higher with swelling sound,
thundering ceaselessly so that the earth's heart quivered,
[the storm] poured down abundant drops on the final days of endless rain;
at dawn, when white clouds, spent after giving birth to water,
float around the sky-touching high mountains,
in the lovely morning when shrubs glow with light,
a blackbuck antelope with twisted horns, whose white back has suffered,
drinks cool, fragrant surface water and feeds on pasture grass;
on a patch of long sand, in the rich shade of blooming pidavu,
he rests peacefully with his beloved mate;
and red velvet mites, colored like red lac, spread out
as if scattered abroad, gleaming abundantly with moist beauty
along the water-drained slopes;
if he does not come even now, O girl of fair brow,
what then is his state? For the season the lover spoke of,
saying, 'I will return,' was not this one
marked by the thunder of the rainclouds gathered in force.
