Like those in want who go after singing the praise of
Māntarañ Cēral Irumporai of victorious war and irresistible army,
a generous donor who appeared towering over many,
whom eminent poets of fine red tongues like ilavu flowers praise,
rejoice greatly now, may you live, O heart!
Fearing that many might discover her, softly,
at the dead of midnight when even the fish in the ocean sleep,
my beloved came, walking like an image endowed with beauty and exquisite craft
learning how to walk,
with her dark, abundant hair resembling broken water-ripples
tumbling over her narrow, slender back along with her jewels,
her forearms closely set with faultless, awe-inspiring silver bangles
resembling rolling water,
and embraced me so that the edges of her bangles left marks,
while pollen of wild flowers from her rain-disturbed mountain-garland
sprinkled down like rubbed gold dust,
and she spoke sweet words like a tuned lute,
just as victorious Miñili of true words, who received the terrifying demon-sacrifice
by hard-to-fulfill custom in Pāḻi of Nannaṉ with black-footed elephants,
gained victory and rejoiced when he slew Atikaṉ of the flood-like army
of great fame, who became a protector to the birds,
in the loud battle of gleaming swords.
