Thinking of leaving to perform your duties, as the fierce rays burn
so that the forest's beauty is utterly destroyed,
and the long branches become bare while many withered, broad leaves
are carried off noisily by the summer wind,
on the hillsides dense with teak, climbing upwards,
the soaring, tall banner-like flame of the sharp fire fed by wind
born from dried brush roars inside the mountain clefts:
at just your brief word, "Lord, we shall traverse
the arduous wasteland of the hot mountain!",
her eyes wept cold tears, like the cool, fragrant blue water lily
flowering from water-drops in the deep pool on the broad rock
on the slope of the cloud-crested Kutirai mountain of Pittaṉ,
who wears crafted anklets, has an unfailing, true sword,
and lavishes fine jewels upon those living in hope,
the flawless warrior of the Cēra king of fierce battles;
and I am filled with grief!
