If our intense desire is to come to pass, / may the way be known to the people / of the ancient, noble town with crowded hamlets / that has the virtue of sheltering empty-handed strangers, / like the Tuḷu country of peacock groves / whose drum-eyed feathers feast on the ripe, crested fruit of bitter-gourds / whose small green gourds ripen— / a land ruled by the noble Kōcar of abundant true ornaments! / Leaving me and her friends to languish in loneliness, / she crossed the guarded boundary / of the spacious, well-protected mansion, like Pāḻi / belonging to Narmaṉ of gleaming ornaments and elephants with forehead plates, / and departed with him— / the path where strong-armed bears in fierce packs wander, / gleaning tubular cassia fruit on the lovely koṉṟai branches, / as their mouths, smeared with fresh fallen flowers / of the desert mahua, scatter pollen on the dusty ground— / that is the way along which went my gentle-shouldered daughter, / whose arms are round like the mountain bamboo, / in company with her sweet companion!
