In the bountiful woodland where torrential rain has poured,
the wide-mouthed frogs in the long hollows filled with water
croak along the long pathways like varied small instruments.
The long-stemmed flowers of the small-shrubbed piṭavu
pattern the red earth with fine sand.
The sweet-smelling white kāntaḷ, shaped like the raised hoods
of fierce-angered serpents, untie their bound pollen.
The spiral-horned blackbuck antelopes drink the clear stream
and dwell safely with their lovely mates.
Along the great highway, cool and seasonable, where the forest has gained beauty,
drive the chariot, o charioteer!
so that the low-hanging garlanded bells of the trimmed-maned horses
whose galloping speed does not flag chime in vibrant harmony,
so that we may swiftly reach the beautiful dark-complexioned young woman
whose noble devotion is turned toward us!
