மதின்முகம் முருக்கிய தொடிசிதை மருப்பின்;
கந்துகால் ஒசிக்கும் யானை;
Drawing with its rays as hands, the sun scorched without greenness,
so that fertility hid and vanished,
and the broad, wide earth opened its gaping mouths;
then dense rain poured so the beauty of the forest was restored,
striped spotted swarms of bees hummed, and in abundance
both the fragrant-blossomed mullai and the gloriosa lily appeared,
and the blossom-scented woodland took on new life.
Bewildered, asking, “What indeed is his state?”
weeping with eyes that shed falling drops of sorrow,
this is the good season for the woman living in distress to regain her ancient beauty;
behold—if the king of fierce wrath, who commands
elephants that break their tethering-posts
with tusks ruined of their metal bands after crushing the wall-fronts of foes,
will let us go, our task fulfilled!
