Having spent midnight with you, suffering deep affliction,
we abide henceforth with cold tears flowing from our eyes.
You must put an end [to this], lord of the sky-touching mountain!
At Kuḻumūr of extensive, fine herds of cows,
gathered in the falling shade of the mountain of many cows,
with a roar rising like the kitchen of Utiyaṉ
of unswerving heart who took on the duty of giving,
streams roar on the slopes of the great mountain,
where a tusker holds his huge cow that has recently given birth
and guards behind the sleep of his calf of swaying gait,
while the fierce, sharp-sighted striped tiger roars in its fine cave
after leaving the sheltering hollow deserted;
in the midnight when foresters are asleep,
must you come by the narrow deer-path?
